Register for the Creative Entrepreneur Success Series at Newark Public Library

Newark, NJ, June 14, 2023 – Want to take your small business to the next level? Need to get smarter about the business side of your creative passion? The Newark Public Library and Small Business Pro University are bringing the five-part, in-person Creative Entrepreneur Success series to the Newark Public Library’s Main Branch (5 Washington St.) and Van Buren Branch (140 Van Buren St.) starting Wednesday, June 28th. The series is focused on helping you understand the best way to tap into your intellectual and creative assets and make money. The classes are free and registration is open on the Newark Public Library website.

This series is part of the library’s Small Business Services and programming offered by the library’s Made@NPL Makerspace, located at the Main Branch. Led by Andrew Frazier, MBA, CFA and founder of Small Business Pro University, this series focuses on five critical elements involved in starting and building a successful small business, addressing real-world issues experienced by entrepreneurs, including those who have already started to build their business at the Made@NPL makerspace, which opened last Summer. Additionally, any Newark entrepreneur can join the Made@NPL Community on the Small Business Pro Network to virtually network with fellow entrepreneurs and experts, and gain access to additional courses and materials.

Here's a quick look at the sessions, which must be registered for individually:

·         How to Launch a Successful Creative Enterprise, June 28, 6-8 p.m, Van Buren Branch, 140 Van Buren St. The first session provides an overview of the series, a personal assessment, and an exercise to envision how you’d like your future to look.

·         Business Planning Made Easy, July 12, 6-8 p.m., Main Branch, 5 Washington St, Centennial Hall (2nd Floor). Not having a business plan results in a business that’s less profitable and increases the likelihood of failure. In this session, you’ll learn how to put together a better business plan, faster and easier.

·         Finding the Right Niche and Developing Your Plan, July 19, 6-8 p.m., Main Branch, 5 Washington St., 4th Floor Auditorium. The more effective you are at marketing, the easier it is to sell. In this session, you will learn to use market analysis to determine your target market, and develop effective messaging, and strategies for generating leads.

·         The Secret to Selling and Making More, Aug. 2, 6-8 p.m., Main Branch, 5 Washington St., 4th Floor Auditorium. Do you want to be a creative entrepreneur? Well, you also must be a salesperson – at least if you want to make money. In this session you will learn critical skills and techniques for selling effectively to generate more revenue and grow your business faster.

·         Strategies for Managing Cash Flow and Financing Business Growth, Aug. 16,  6-8 p.m., Main Branch, 5 Washington St, Centennial Hall (2nd Floor). If you run out of cash, your business will fail. You’re bound to have cash flow challenges at one time or another – or all the time! In this session, you will learn how to manage cash flow effectively and the secret to financing your business faster and easier.

“Made@NPL is a great resource for Newarkers in the creative space,” said Frazier. “Series participants will learn valuable, practical skills that will enable them to become more focused, confident, and profitable by working ON their business, rather than working IN their business. I'm excited about sharing the real-world knowledge I gained from being an entrepreneur and working one-on-one with 1,000+ business owners.

The PNC Foundation has provided a $50,000 grant to establish the Made@NPL Makerspace, building upon the library’s $2.5 million capital investment to create a technology corridor on the first floor of the Main Branch. This series is part of Year Two funding designated to provide knowledge and skill sets that help users master the fundamentals of managing a successful small business.

“New and aspiring entrepreneurs, especially those who consider themselves ‘creatives,’ often feel a disconnect between the visions they have for their future businesses and the practical “how-to’s” in bringing these visions to fruition,” said Anne Schatz, NPL’s Business Reference Librarian and initial Project Coordinator for Made@NPL. “Andrew Frazier’s Creative Entrepreneur Success Series and its virtual component on the Small Business Pro Network is packed with valuable takeaways that will propel participants toward their goals. The Made@NPL Makerspace, including its Small Business Services offerings, was devised as a supportive environment in which Newarkers can create, commune, and connect to programs like these series, and a plethora of other resources.”
