Can AI Coach Your Business?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has proven to be the most impactful tool ever for businesses, but can it coach your business? The answer is yes and no. While AI cannot entirely replace the human element in coaching, it can facilitate certain coaching functions and introduce new dimensions to the coaching experience. Although human-only or AI-only coaching can be beneficial, a combination of the two produces optimal results.

Human Coaching

  • Emotional Intelligence: creates greater relatability and trust

  • Personal Network: add value via connection

  • Visioning and Values: unique perspective and guidance

  • Motivation & Accountability: personal partner and encourager

  • Skill Development: based on personal real-life experience

AI Coaching

  • Research and Analysis: process large amounts of data more effectively

  • Tracking & Management: access and update information more easily

  • Planning & Goal Setting: faster/enhanced results

  • Problem Solving: efficient logic-driven processes

  • Education & Training: broad range of resources

  • Democratization: cost-effective and widely available

  • Availability: access to support 24-7

Coaching is a trust-based relationship that is best developed through listening, empathy, and emotional intelligence (compatibility). Humans, being intuitive, are best at understanding highly individualized values and motivations. It should not be a cookie-cutter, one-size-fits-all experience, because the depth of connection significantly affects outcomes.

Building rapport is the first step in creating a successful coaching relationship. For example, in an initial meeting with a client, a coach identified that they were both military veterans and the oldest child in a single-parent household. This resulted in building a level of compatibility and trust that cannot be achieved by AI (at least not yet).

However, coaching is also a results-based relationship that requires unbiased problem-solving, planning, and tracking. AI, being process-driven, is most effective at employing logic and analysis to implement more effectively.

The objective of coaching is to achieve better business outcomes, which require analyzing information and execution. AI can empower a business owner to refine a target market, develop a more effective marketing strategy, and expand their digital footprint within a single hour.

In the 21st century, the most effective coaching outcomes will result from a combination of human and AI-based interactions, leveraging the strengths of both modalities and mitigating each modality’s weaknesses.
